windfalls...

For every step you make, they take two to break
Holding you down, stabbing your chest with a stake…
Branding you a sap, a cut-out, a fake.
assaulting you with a knife, a drill, a rake..

Your heart bleeds, they drink your blood like fools,
Pouncing on and ripping you till your passion cools…
With so much precision, using the right tools
Like a hyena, that plots, that laughs, that drools…

Like heart never mattered, in this day and age
You feel trapped in a small, dark and vile cage…

Your head in your hands, your heart cries
You’re not good enough, you are weak in their eyes
You look in the mirror as quickly as time flies…
a part of you screams and a small part of you dies.

But you know full well and you know true
Why you’re still standing here, black and blue…
They can ridicule you and everything you do…
Yet no angry, selfish spirit can ever break you

When darkness falls and haunts you every day
Like a hungry beast running after its prey…

With not enough armor to make you strong and stay…
You just take it in, bow your head and…pray.

Hold your breath and go beyond brick walls
Be your own salvation answer your own calls
Don’t be a spirit that wilts, that melts, that crawls…
but do keep heart, keep watch for little blessings, little things…
little windfalls.
